Stevenson uses Mr utterson to narrate a large section of the novel, where readers investigate the character Mr Hyde from uttersons perspective.
it is almost as if readers empathize and relate with Mr uttersons urge to know more about Mr Hyde.

A

the use of simile here to suggest that utterson’s friendship develop “like ivy” suggests that uttersons relationship develop over time and he slowly build friendship.this makes the relationship between jekyll more important for the readers as they have a strong relationship.
