What is ultility software?
relatively small piece of systems software with one specific purpose. usually related to maintenance of the system by carrying out housekeeping tasks
What are the types of Utility Software?
Compression : OS provides utilities that enable files to be compressed and decompressed. used whne compressing large files to be transmitted across the internet and commonly used to compress scanned files
Disk Defragmentation: as hard disk becomes full, read/write times slow downas files become fragmented as they’re stored in different part of memeory. this rearranges contents of the hard drive so they can be accessed faster thus improving performance
Anti-Virus: responsible for detecting potential threats to the computer, alerting the user and removing these threats
Automatic Updating: ensures OS is kept up to date. updates (security flaws or tackles bugs) automatically installed when the computer is restarted. ensures system is less vulnerable to malware and hacking threats
Backup: automatically creates routine copies of specific files selected by the user. how often files are backed up is specified by the user. this means in the event of a power failure,malicious attack or other accidents, files can be recovered

Disk Defragmentation such as Windows Disk Defragmenter
Compression such as Windows Compression Software
File Managers such as Windows File Explorer
