When should you treat Asymptomatic Bacteriuria?
Pregnant women
Patients with elective urological procedures

When should alkalising agents not be used in a UTI?
Alkalizing agents → increase the rate of nitrofurantoin excretion
Alkalinising agents should not be used for those with a creatinine clearance (CrCl) of <30 mL/minutes

Norfloxacin

Consider resistant pathogens being involved in a UTI when:
- people who have travelled internationally within the past 6 months (particularly in South and East Asia)
- people who have had recent antibiotic exposure
- patients who have not responded to initial therapy
- aged-care facility residents.

When would you treat candiuria?
Consider treating candiduria in:
–>patients with neutropenia
–>patients undergoing urological manipulations
–>infants of low birth weight—seek expert advice
–>symptomatic patients.
