  1. Lower UTI: Dysuria, urgency, frequency, nocturia, suprapubic heaviness, gross hematuria
  2. Upper UTI**: Flank pain, fever, nausea, vomiting, malaise
  • Notice pyuria is not listed
  • *More systemic symptoms

What happens when you treat asymptomatic bacturia?

A

People are more likely to become symptomatic! Don’t treat!

A

Pregnant women (reduces incidence of pyelonephritis and preterm delivery)
People undergoing urologic procedures (reduces incidence of septic complications)
*Screen and then treat them if positive.

When should you use FQ’s in UTI?

A

When you don’t have any good alternatives. Causes Tendon problems, muscle/joint, nervous system, blood sugar, mental health, cardiovascular (aneurism), issues.
