Leiomyoma (fibroid)
- the leading cause of hysterectomy
- stimulated by estrogen
What are the 4 different locations for fibroids?
Intramural - most common, within muscle wall, no change in contour.
subserosal - grows under serosal layer, distorts outer contour.
submucosal - adjacent to endo, distorts endo contour.
pedunculated - grows outward attached by a stalk.
What is a malignant form of fibroids?
Leiomyosarcoma
What is the most common female malignancy under the age of 50?
Cervical carcinoma
What are benign retention cysts within the cervix?
Nabothian cysts
What are small cysts located along the vaginal wall?
Vaginal gartner duct cysts
What is the name of a c-section scar defect?
Dehiscence (myometrial walls are separating)
