Principle warfighting organization of the Marine Corps. Largest and most combat-capable.
MEF
Able to respond to a full range of crises and contingencies. Can serve as an enabler for joint/ combined forces. Normally commanded by a brigadier general
MEB
Normally embarked abroad Amphibious Ready Group (ARG)
On scene, on-call, immediately employable
MEU
Formed to accomplish a specific mission, operation or exercise.
Typically formed to support combatant commander engagements, security cooperation and civil-military operations
SPMAGTF
Why is Marine Aviation vital to the USMC?
It assists troops on the ground to successfully carry out their missions.
USMC aviation supplants/ augments the role of artillery and armor
It is essential to combined fires in the MAGTF
