Using the Probe Flashcards
how do we use the probe to assess occlusion?
vertically
how do we adapt the probe to a tooth surface?
side of tip remains against the tooth
*a lot of pivoting with walking stroke, keeping the shank parallel to the tooth surface
the probe is parallel to what on the tooth?
parallel to the tooth SURFACE
how do we activate the probe?
after vertical insertion, tip is gently “walked” along the base of the sulcus; lift and move, DO NOT DRAG!!!
strokes are close together-1mm steps
strokes remain within sulcus, unless sulcus is very shallow, then it may be impossible (especially facial of the mand. anteriors)
how do we adapt the probe interproximal?
walk probe to contact, then angle into col area as one more step is taken.
*be sure to “step” probe to the attachment level and keep the side of the tip angled toward the tooth to keep touching the tooth.
how do we read the probe?
posterior to anterior
distal to mesial
