Calibrations Flashcards
Identify calibration of various probes
a. 3-6-8mm
b. 1,2,3-5-7,8,9,10
c. 1,2,3-5,6,7,8,9,10
d. 3-6-9-12 (most common)
e. 3-6-8-11
what does PSR Probe mean?
Periodontal Screening and Recording
identify different shapes of various probes
should be slender enough to allow for easy insertion
- round
- flat
- oval
while probing, what are we examining the gingiva for (there are 4 items)?
- bleeding
- depth
- shape of pocket
- tissue characteristics of the pocket
NOT!!!NOT!!! the contour!
would you probe or explore first for perio assessment information?
probe first.
while probing, what are the purposes and uses of the probe?
- Assessment of the patient’s periodontal status in preparation of treatment plan
- guide to instrumentation
- evaluation of professional treatment and patient home care
- assessment of occlusion
what is meant by attachment level?
= probe depth (where the junctional epithelium is at the base of the pocket or sulcus
what is meant by gingival pocket?
where the junctional epithelium and the CEJ meet at the same spot)
where is the probe when it is inserted in the gingival pocket?
the side of the probe is on the enamel
what is meant by periodontal pocket?
the side of the probe is on the cemental or dentinal surface below the CEJ.
bleeding upon probing is an early sign of?
inflammation in the gingiva.
what is NOT meant when there is bleeding upon probing?
does NOT mean bone loss, JUST INFLAMMATION!
what is meant by the extent of inflammation?
= sulcular bleeding index (SBI%)
what do we survey about the sulcus and pocket?
- depth
- shape
3 tissue characteristics of the pocket
what is normal healthy tissues?
probe is at the coronal end of the junctional epitherium
