Using Reflection And Refraction Flashcards
What is a optical fibre?
Optical fibres are thin glass fibres that can be used to transmit digital data in the form of pulses of light. The light travels along the fibres by total internal reflection
What is a endoscope?
Endoscopes can be used to look inside patient’s bodies, and make use of optical fibres.
What does an endoscope do?
Endoscopes allow keyhole surgery this is surgery conducted through a very small cut in the body to speed up recovery time
What is ultrasound?
Ultrasound is the sound with a much higher frequency that can be heard by humans. It can travel through human tissue without causing damage to the body
What does an ultrasound do?
- Ultrasound is used to scan the body
- Ultrasound of a different frequency and intensity is used to break up stones that form in parts of the body without need for surgery
- Ultrasound is also used to treat muscle and other soft tissue injuries by focusing energy on the specific injury point
How does ultrasound work?
Ultrasound is reflected whenever there is a change in speed of the ultrasound waves. A computer builds up an image from the reflected and refracted ultrasound waves.
