What is User Interface Design?
User Interface Design is the process designers go through to create interfaces for websites, apps etc. using colour, fonts and graphic design principles to ensure a application or website is accessible to a wide range of audiences
What is Hue?
saturated colour without any value.
What is Saturation?
intensity of a colour, saturated is vibrant, desaturated is dull.
What is Shade?
created when black is added to the hue
What is Tint?
created when white is added to the hue.
What is Tone?
created when grey/tint/shadow are added to a hu
Monochromatic?
Hue with saturation and brightness variation
Analogous?
Hues next to one another on the colour wheel with saturation variations
Complementary?
Colours opposite on the colour wheel
Split Complementary?
One colour + 2 colours equally spaced from one another
Triadic?
Three colours equally distant around the wheel
Tetradic?
Pairs of colours plus complements/double complementary
Example of colour association?
Red = danger due to danger signs on the road
Yellow = Warning due to weather warning signs
Example of colour Symbolism?
Red =Danger, Passion, energy, Love
Brown = Earth, Natural, Outdoors
What is font weight?
Font thickness
What is font leading?
Font vertical spacing
What is font kerning?
Blank spaces between letters mainly to look more visually appealing
Also makes text easier to read
What is font tracking?
Space between letters
Justification?
Glyphs or letters stretched or compressed to algin left + right ends, more for news papers, not for web design!!
User Interface Design Shape uses?
- Geometric
- Natural
- Abstract
Design Elements UID: Colour?
- Colour itself should be used consistently
- doing so will tie the whole interface together
- this can be used effectively to separate and group elements.
Design Elements UID: Typography?
Fonts should be applied consistently in styles, sizes and colour throughout the application
Design Elements UID: Layout?
The layouts between individual pages should be consistent in order for the user to navigate confidently.
Design Elements UID: Hierarchy?
Using position and relative size, a designer can indicate the importance of information on the screen.
