Use Of Modalities In Treatment Of Acute Injury Flashcards
1
Q
Inflammatory response (days 2 - 6)
A
Sx: swelling subsides, warm to touch, discoloration, pain to touch, pain on motion Modalities: CRYO --> decrease swelling and pain ESC --> decrease pain IC --> decrease swelling LPL --> decrease pain US --> nonthermal effects to increase healing ROM
2
Q
Fibroblastic-repair (days 4 - 10)
A
Sx: pain to touch, pain on motion, swollen Modalities: THERMO --> mildly increase circulation ESC --> decrees pain - muscle pumping LPL --> decrease pain IC --> facilitate lymphatic flow US --> nonthermal effects to increase healing ROM Strengthening
3
Q
Maturation-remodeling (day 7 - recovery)
A
Sx: swollen, no more pain to touch, decreasing pain on motion
Modalities:
US –> deep heating to increase circulation
ESC –> increase ROM and strength
LPL –> decrease pain
SWD –> decrease pain
MWD –> deep heating to increase circulation
ROM –> deep heating to increase circulation

Q
Initial acute phase (injury - day 3)
A
Sx: swelling, pain to touch, pain on motion Modalities: CRYO --> decrease swelling and pain ESC --> decrease pain IC --> decrease swelling LPL --> decrease pain US --> nonthermal effects to increase healing Rest
