Common law
If you have an HONESTLY HELF BELIEF that you or another are in IMMINENT DANGER then you may use such force as is reasonable and necessary to Avert that danger
Section 3 of the criminal law act 1967
A person may use such force as is reasonable in the circumstances, in the prevention of crime; or in the effecting or assisting in the lawful arrest of offenders or suspected offenders or persons unlawfully at large
Section 117 of the police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984
Provides that a constable can use reasonable force in the exercise of any power under this act.
Where any provision of this act :
A) Confers a power on a constable &
B) does not provide that the power may only be exercised with the consent of some person, other than a police officer,
The officer may use reasonable force if necessary in the exercise of the power
Terrorism (114)
114(1) a power conferred by virtue of this act on a constable:
Is additional to powers which are at common law or by virtue of any other enactment, and shall not be taken to affect those powers.
Section 114(2) a constable may , if necessary, use reasonable force for the purpose of exercising a power conferred on him by virtue of this act
