What is an ethical interview
Interviews should treat suspects with respect and with the same rights and dignity
Ethical interview structure
P- planning and prep- should be planned, noting aims and topics of interest
E- engage and explain- rapport needs to be built. Achieved by explaining how the interview will take place
A- account- the invitation to the person to provide an account of their behaviour
C- closure- bringing the interview to a good end
E- evaluate- evaluate interview against required aims

Kebell- more effective than standard interviewing at producing a valid confession from sex offenders
Comparison of ethical interviews and cognitive interviews
Both focus on building rapport and trust between the interviewer and interviewee
EI- place emphasis on using rapport to reduce anxiety and distress whereas CI main objective to produce more reliable and valid testimonies
