Personality Flashcards
Eyesncks personality theory-
He suggested that there were three universal personality types linked to crime- extrovert, neuroticism and psychoticism
He proposed the arousal theory- individuals are motivated to act a certain way to maintain a certain level of physiological arousal
What is an extravert
They are under aroused in the brain and need external arousal stimulation
They have a dampened reticular activating system so seek risk taking behaviour
What is neuroticism
Emotionally unstable and find it difficult to inhibit their behaviour and so act more aggressively
They are more jumpy and nervous and are likely to experience a flight or fight response which means their impulsivity makes violent responses more likely
What is psychoticism?
They lack empathy, have no conscience so can commit crimes without remorse.
They have higher levels of testosterone which increases reward seeking, aggression and decreases fearfulness
