How are brokers different from distributers?
-distributers paid by producers to sell wine on their behalf
-brokers- independent intermediaries who represent neither parties
-don’t enter into any deals, just make them happen
What are the benefits for using a broker?
-small over heads= charge smaller fees
-intimate knowledge of particular specialised markets
-have diff specialities- some bulk, some smaller production
-can bring together a buyer (supermarket/merchant) and a seller (coop/grower)
=saves both parties time and effort of seeking each other out
-know what wine producers have available to sell, and prices
-also know style and vol of wine buyers looking for and price prepared to pay
Where else do brokers play a key role?
-FW trade
-facilitates deals between those who wish to buy and or sell rare bottles of wine
