They had different economics, culture, and political views. Because they were so different, it was hard for the federal government to make any decisions without the South or North getting mad. The conflicts between the North and South created division in the country and eventually led to the Civil War.

North and South fought over making a new state a free or slave state, potential spread of slavery, ruining ecosystems by exploiting for natural resources, relocation of Native Americans and leaving them with no home
