Albany plan of union
Proposed by Benjamin Franklin, aimed to unify the 13 colonies for defense and Native American relations
Why was the Albany plan of union rejected?
it was rejected because Britain feared it gave the colonies too much independence, and the Colonies felt it limited their local control
Imperial reorganization
it marked Britain’s shift from “Salutary neglect” to strict control over the American colonies, to collect more taxes, and gain revenue after the French and Indian war; this angered the colonists because they were used to self-governance
The proclamation line of 1763
it forbade American colonists from settling West of the Appalachian mountains to avoid conflicts with Native Americans, this sparked colonial frustration with British rule
Boston Tea Party
it was a protest where Colonists dumped British tea into Boston Harbor to oppose unfair taxation

in response, Britain enacted the coercive acts which was a series of punitive laws to tighten control over Massachusetts, which angered the colonies further

they were punitive laws aimed at Massachusetts for the Boston Tea Party, these acts united the colonies against British rule and led to the first continental congress

it was a pamphlet published in 1776 that argued for American independence from Britain, presenting compelling reasons for self-governance and support for the American Revolution
The Articles of Confederation
it was adopted in 1781, it served as the first Constitution of the United States, it established a weak central government with limited power and led to challenges that ultimately promoted the creation of a stronger federal government under the constitution
Shay’s rebellion (1786-1787)
an armed uprising by farmers in Massachusetts who were protesting economic injustices and weak government response, it highlighted the deficiencies of the Articles of Confederation
Philadelphia Convention (1787)
Shay’s rebellion help lead to this event, the Philadelphia convention is where delegates drafted a new constitution to create a stronger federal government

a debate over the U.S. constitution which involved federalists who supported a strong central government and emphasized the need for the Constitution as outlined in the federalist papers; Anti-federalists who opposed it and demanded more rights to protect individual liberties, fearing a strong federal government
