Colony
people who settle in a distant land who are ruled by the government of their native land
Commercial Fishing
fishing done not for sport or self sufficiency, but as a business
democracy
a government in which power is held by the people through direct involvement or elected representatives
fertile
arable land, good farming land
finished product
full assembly of raw materials combined with labor to produce a final product, something ready to sell
direct democracy
government in which the people participate in debating and voting on legislation, rather than by having a representative do this for them
economy
a system dealing with how people and countries use their resources to produce, distribute, and consume goods and services
growing season
usually qualified as long or short. this is the length of time the climate will support agricultural production, it depends on the amount of rainfall, hours of sunlight, and daily temperature

The theory and system of political economy where the economy of the colonies should be controlled by and should benefit the mother country
Middle Colonies
Today, this area is called the Mid-Atlantic States; were once a part of the original 13 colonies. The area consisted of new jersey , Pennsylvania, New York, and Delaware. The region was originally called New Netherlands

the domination or control of the supply of goods or services in the market place by one company or several companies

The American Indians who were using the land prior to immigration patterns of the earliest settlers in 1607
