What is citizenship?
Being a member of a country and having full rights and responsibilities under that country’s law.
What is naturalization?
Applicants must be 18 years old or older to qualify. They have to be permanent residents at the US for five years unless you’re in the military for one year it’s shorter because you show your devotion to the country. They must also have good character, speak English, and pass a civics test and interview. The last step is to take an oath of allegiance.
What is an oath of allegiance?
It swears loyalty to the United States and our constitution
What is treason?
The act of betraying your country, and the U.S. Constitution make this crime punishable by death
What is the Pledge of Allegiance?
It shows loyalty to the United States flag and the nation it stands for.
What is Patriotism?
Feeling a deep bond to your country
What is the Star-Spangled Banner?
The national anthem
What is Independence Day?
The day the declaration of independence was signed on July 4, 1776, when the American colonies declared their independence from Great Britain.
What are other national holidays, and what do they honor?
Presidents’ Day and Martin Luther King Junior Day-
They honor the lies and sacrifices of important Americans.
Memorial Day and Veterans Day-
They honor those who lost their lives or served in the US military
What is the bill of rights?
They list important rights guaranteed to all people of the United States- not just citizens. They list the first 10 amendments to the U.S. Constitution. Guaranteed to all citizens in 1920.
Is the selective service system?
In a time of national emergency, this agency is authorized to call up these citizens to serve in the armed force if you are a male citizen between the age of 18 to 26.
