  • occurs most often in winter
  • normal nose is pink, red=infection
  • prodrome to pneumonia, bronchitis, meningitis, septicaemia etc

Infection causing inflammation and fluid buildup behind the eardrum

  • erythema and bulging eardrum
  • primary viral infection
  • secondary bacterial infection with pneumococcus
  • may cause spontaneous rupture of drum

intubation and antibiotics
