Urology Flashcards
Management for nephrolithiasis?
Renal stone smaller than 1 cm – hydration and analgesics until stone passes spontaneously
Renal stone greater than 1 cm – extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy
Treatment for transitional cell bladder cancer?
Transurethral resection of visible lesions and intravesicular chemotherapy
Management of bilateral undescended testicles in an infant?
Chorionic gonadotropin therapy for 1 month
Operative placement into the scrotum before age 2 if descent has not occurred.
What is orchiopexy?
Orchiopexy (or orchidopexy) is a surgery to move an undescended testicle into the scrotum and permanently fix it there. Orchiopexy also describes the surgery used to resolve testicular torsion.
Management of renal cell carcinoma?
Radical nephrectomy. Renal cell cancer is not responsive to radiation or chemotherapy.
Indications for surgery in patients with benign prosthetic hyperplasia?
– Recurrent urinary tract infection
– Urinary retention refractory to medical therapy
– Upper tract dilation
– Renal insufficiency secondary to outflow instruction
– Bladder stones
Management of open fractures?
Early irrigation and debridement
Legg-Calve-Perthes LCP disease
– Occurs between the ages of two and 12
– Pathogenesis involves a period of ischemia in the proximal femur epiphysis followed by revascularization
– Patients present with length and pain in the groin, thigh, or knee
– Plain radiographs show a small and denser than normal femoral head on the affected side
Deficit that would result from a distal radial nerve injury. If the radial nerve is severed at the wrist
Sensory loss over the thenar pad and the thumb web
Treatment of choice for severe tibial shaft fracture?
Surgical fixation with intramedullary nailing
Radiographs show an expansive destructive lesion of the bone with focal areas of calcification
Chondrosarcoma– Malignant neoplasm of cartilage most often seen in the pelvis, spine, proximal humerus, knee
