What factors indicate an organic cause of ED?
Gradual onset of symptoms
Lack of tumescence (erection)
Normal libido
Which factors indicate a psychogenic cause of ED?
Sudden onset Decreased libido Self-stimulated erections Major life events History of psychological problems
What are the risk factors for ED?
Cardiovascular disease: obesity, DM, HTN, smoking
Alcohol
Drugs: SSRIs, beta-blockers
What investigations should be done for ED?
Free testosterone between 9-11am
If testosterone low or borderline, repeat with FSH, LH and prolactin.
What is the first line management of ED?
PDE-5 inhibitors = sildenafil
referral for young men who have always had ED
if cycling for >3 hours a week, advise to stop
