Kidney problems

What does glucose detection in urine indicate?
Diabetes
What does blood detection in urine indicate?
Infections such as kidney damage, infection, stones or cancer -> requires further testing
What does Ketone detection in urine indicate
Diabetes or starvation
what is not included in a urine dipstick report?
Leukocyte esterase and nitrates
Why are Leukocyte esterase and nitrates not included on a urine dipstick report?
Can give false positives to infection
In microscopy, what is the maximum number of cells we need to count?
1000 x 10^6/L
How many colonies do we not count over in a Urine Culture (agar)
100 X 10^6 cfu/L
what does a large zone of inhibition indicate?
The organism is susceptible to the antibiotic (will work for treatment)
what does a small zone of inhibition indicate?
that the organism is resistant to the antibiotic (need to use another treatment)
How many resistances before we have to test again with a standardised test?
