Infection

Q
What do normal RBCs vs dysmorphic RBCs on urine microscopy indicate?
A
- Normal RBCs - bleeding along urine tract (stones, malignancy, infection, inflammation)
- Dysmorphic RBCs - squeezed through glomerular membrane (intrinsic renal disease)

Q
What do casts in urine microscopy indicate?
A
- Cells passed into renal tubule get stuck together
- RBC casts and dysmorphic - glomerulonephritis
- WBC casts - pyelonephritis/interstitial nephritis
