URINARY Section 4: Contrast induced nephropathy Flashcards
1
Q
Allergic reactions in contrast induced nephropathy
A
Allergic reactions are NOT considered a risk factor for CIN.
2
Q
“Risk Factors” for CIN
A
pre-existing renal insufficiency
diabetes mellitus (even more so with pre-existing renal insufficiency)
cardiovascular disease with CHF
dehydration
myeloma.
3
Q
What supposedly decreases the incidence of CIN?
A
Hydration via IV with 0.9% normal saline 6-12 hours before and continuing 4-12 hours after contrast administration in patients with chronic renal insufficiency
(Mechanism is diluting Cr levels)
Oral dehydration - shown not to work
