Urinary And Reproductive Systems Flashcards
Creatinine
Waste material in urine. Doctors measure creatinine to determine the kidney’s ability to filter blood.
Excretion
The process by which wastes are removed from the blood in the form of urine
Cysto
Bladder
Glomerulo
Nephron part; little ball. Each kidney holds 1 mill. nephrons, and they are responsible for filtration, reabsorption, and secretion.
Nephro
Kidney
Peritoneo
Lining of abdominal organs.
Pyelo
Pelvis
Pyelonephritis
Pelvis and kidney inflammation. One of the most common kidney diseases. Comes from the bacterium, e-coli, which comes from the stool. Occurs most often in women.
Reni
Kidney. (Kidney function decreases with age bc of the hardening and narrowing of the arteries that supply blood to the kidneys.)
Uretero
Ureter. (Extends from the kidneys to the bladder. The most painful kidney stones are trapped in the ureters.)
Urethro
Urethra. (Urethritis is the precursor to pyelonephritis)
Uri
Urine.
Micturation
Urination
Uric
Pertaining to urine
Urina
Urine
Beer causes frequent urination bc it inhibits antidiuretic hormone ADH, which limits the flow of urine. Another reason is that lupulin, a component of the hops in beer, acts as a diuretic.
