who is most at risk for a uti?
women, older adults, anyone with a foley
what are the criteria for an acute complicated UTI?
involves more than the bladder (upper UTI), or in a male
signs and symptoms of uncomlicated uti
frequency, urgency, dysuria, retention, surprapubic tenderness or fullness
complicated cystitis symptoms
fever, chills, nausea/vomiting, flank pain
why would we give ditropan for a uti?
its an antispasmodic and helps with bladder spasms which can be painful
what do we want to incourage in someone with a UTI?
fluid intake
how much urine output do we want in a UTI?
1.5 liters/day
What is a comfort measure for painful urination?
encouraging them to void in a sits bath
which three types of drugs wold be used to treat uti?
antipyretic, antispasmodic, antibiotic
what are four valid indications for a foley?
-accurate ins and outs with incontinence
-highly medically unstable (ICU)
- a wound that is continually getting peed on
- urinary retention
presence of calculi/stones in the urinary tract
urolithiasis
what are three non-med non-surg interventions for kidney stones
hydration, walking, lithotripsy
do we still strain the urine after lithotripsy?
