What are the most common and characteristics initial symptoms are?
Nasal discharge
Nasal obstruction
Dry or “scratchy throat”
Cough is common ans tends to appear after the onset of nasal discharge and obstruction
What other symptoms can also present with URIs?
Sneezing
Malaise
HA
Pressure or discomfort in their ears and face
The cold can arise within how many hours?
24-72 hours
How long do colds last for?
3 to 10 days
Although clinical illness may last as ling as two weeks up to 25% of patients, particularly smokers
Treatment for URI
Tylenol 325mg 1-2 tabs q 4-6 hours as needed for fever or pain
Pseudoephedrine
Immediate: 60mg q 4 to 6 hours
Extended: 120mg q 12 hrs or 240mg q 24hours
Max: 240mg/ 24 hours
