Age <25
Men who have sex with men
Previous STI
Multiple sexual partners
How does urethritis present?
Dysuria
Penile irritation
Urethral discharge
What are complications of urethritis?
Epididymitis
Reactive arthritis
What are the differentials for urethritis?
Balanitis
Acute prostatitis
Cystitis (UTI)
What investigations are done for urethritis?
Urethral swabs - send for gram stain + microscopy
Urine dipstick + culture
STI screening
What is the management of urethritis?
Antibiotics - depending on the organism
Abstain from sexual activity
Notify the partner of any STIs / contact tracing
Give advice around safe sex
