What is urbanisation?
A
is the process where an increasing proportion of the population lives in towns or cities resulting in their growth (55% of the world’s population)

What are the 2 things that causes urbanisation + megacities ?
A
- natural increase : more people are being born than are dying = population growth
- rural-urban migration : more people are leaving the countryside & moving to cities = due to push + pull factors

What are 3 push factors of urbanisation + megacities?
A
- natural disasters = rural areas can find it harder to recover as they can have fewer resources
- lack of opportunities = no education, employment
- famine = starvation due to crop failure (could be because of desertification)

What are 3 pull factors of urbanisation + megacities?
A
- more jobs well paid and they are varied
- access to services = access to better healthcare & educational opportunties
- stability = people think they will have a better quality of life
