What is rural-urban migration?
A process in which people move from the countryside to the towns and cities
What is the cbd?🌃
The cbd is the central business district . It’s in the centre of a city. It is where all the shops and offices are. Buildings are tall and building density is very high. Very few people live here
What is urbanisation ?🌆
Urbanisation is the growth in the proportion of a country’s population living in urban areas and a reduction living in rural areas
Why do people in POORER countries move from the country side to cities ?
> shortage of services (eg shops,education )
> the standard of living is better in cities
> more jobs in urban areas, industry is attracted to cities because there is a larger work force
Why people in RICHER countries move from rural areas do cities?
> machinery began to replace farm labour in rural areas and jobs were created in new factories in urban areas.
> people left run down inner city areas and moved to the country-side. People are encouraged back now by the redevelopment .
What is the inner city ?
>Run down ,deprived area. >Around the city . >Mix of poorer quality housing >older industrial buildings >newer housing being redeveloped
What are the suburbs ?
These are housing areas found toward the edge of the city . Middle class family’s tend to live here . There is less crime and pollution . It’s cheap and close enough to travel .
What is the rural urban fringe ?
> right at he edge of a city
both urban and rural land uses
fewer ,larger houses
How can the land uses of parts of a city differ?
> shopping centres have been built in the out of town locations causing shops in CBDS to close down
inner city tower blocks have been removed and replaced with housing estates on the rural-urban fringe
new housing is often built on brownfield sites in the inner city instead of towards the edges of the city
