unemployment and low socioeconomic status,

employment, lifestyle and educational opportunities.
Growing cities:
Sydney, Darwin and cities along the eastern coast
Declining cities
Hobart exploited mining cities and old industrial parts of cities.
Ecological Dimension:
- As growth occurs, more stress placed on natural environment by the increase use of resources and energy and production of waste.
- In declining areas, environment left to decline as the socioeconomic conditions worsen
What kind of process can occur?
Urbanisaiton
urban consolidation (Increase density of population within existing urban area such as building high-rise),
gentrification ( new demographic and renovating = property value increase becomes richer),
suburbanisation ( suburbs built on previously settled land),
reurbanisation and urban renewel (revitalization of suburbs and urban areas).
Process of declining region:
produce urban decay or counter-urbanisaton
POsitive IMpacts:
- increase employment opportunities. Entertainment, specialist doctors, universities ad cultural activities.
Negative IMpacts:
inadequate infrastructure and community service, traffic congestion, deteriorating air quality, high price homes, urban blight and accumulation of waste
