an increase in the percentage of a countries population living in towns and cities
example of urban and rural settlement

rural- village

urban-more people are employed in manufacturing and services

what are the reasons for high rates of urbanisation an developing and emerging countries?

explain rural to urban migration
movement of people from countryside to towns and cities, caused by push and pull factors
describe natural increase
it’s when more babies are being born than people are dying, leading to population increase, even without immigration
why developing and emerging countries have night rates of natural increase?
because they are home for lots of young adults ( which tend to have more children) and not die much
migrants can also be young adults looking for employment or education
explain economic development
as countries develop economically, there is a shift from agriculture to a manufacturing or service=creation of new jobs, stimulating the development of big cities to make them more attractive to migrants
what is a millionaire city
population 1million or greater
what is a mega city ?
population 10 million or greater
what is a global city?
city that is recognised worldwide as a place of great prestige, status, power and influence
