The increasing percentage of a country’s population living in towns and cities.
When is a city considered a megacity?
When there is more than 10milion people living there
What are the 2 main causes of urbanisation ?
Rural to urban migration
Natural increase
What is rural to urban migration?
People moving from the countryside (rural) to towns and cities (urban)
What is natural increase?
Where the birth rate is higher than the death rate. People living in cities are typically younger meaning they will have more children
Why is urban growth low in HICs?
-low natural increase
-people are moving from the city to the country
Why is urban growth highin LICs
-people migrating from the country to city
Why does urban growth happen faster in LIC’s
Because they are industrialising now
