Belladonna stands for:
violence of attack and suddenness of onset
What is belladonna always associated with?
-hot
-red skin
-flushed face
-glaring eyes
-throbbing carotids
-excited mental state
-hyperesthesia of all senses
-delirium
-restless sleep
-convulsive movements
-dryness of mouth and throat with aversion to water
-neuralgic pains that come and go suddenly
-Heat(fever)
-redness
-throbbing and burning
(great children’s remedy)
-Throat red
-worse on right side
-Tonsils enlarged: throat feels constricted; difficult deglutition (swallowing)
Belladonna affinity:
brain, head. cardiovascular system. fevers. sudden intense symptoms, acute, appear and disappear suddenly.
Belladonna mental/emotional symptoms:
Lively, vibrant personality, with sudden fits and tantrums: bites, strikes, kicks, pulls hair, hits head on the wall/floor. Tries to run away, hide from hallucinations during fevers or nightmares (dogs, cats, animals, bugs, devils, fire, etc.) Wild expression and eyes, dilated pupils, shiny glassy eyes when sick.
Belladonna is part of what family?
Atropa b., Deadly nightshade
(Solanaceae family)
General symptoms of belladonna:
Pains: throbbing, pulsating, hammering, bursting, stabbing, burning pains; visible pulsations
Heat, redness, inflammation, congestion (head, lungs). Dryness.
No thirst, in fever, or constant desire to drink.
Modalities of belladonna:
Worse: afternoon(3pm on), night; motion, jar; light touch; draft, walking in wind; shiny bright objects, light. Noise. Right side.
Better: leaning head against something; bending the part back or inward; while standing; in bed; in morning; with warmth
Aconitum:
Very thirsty:
-cold water
Anxiety:
-Fear of death
-Panic attacks
Nerves:
-Numbness
-Pain
Gelsemium (yellow jasmine):
Mucous membranes:
-flu
-infectious mononucleosis
CNS/motor nerves:
-weakness
-paralysis
-Trigeminal neuralgia
Gelsemium generals:
-Gradual onset of complaints
-Muscular weakness, may see double…
-Muscle aches, soreness, pain, heaviness
-Thirstlessness
-“Droopy, dizzy, drowsy, and dull” (influenza, mononucleosis, CSF)
Gelsemium modalities:
Better:
-open air
-closing eyes
-Bending forward
-Headache>profuse urination
Worse:
-In sun, heat, summer
-Damp weather
-Before thunderstorm
-From bad news, emotions, excitement
-Periodically
Gelsemium mental symptoms:
Anticipatory anxiety:
-Stage fright (with trembling, urging to empty bladder)
-Examination funk
-Timidity in public
-Cowardice
-Diarrhea from fear
-May act bravely, be bold, to fight inner fearful feelings
Baptisia tinctoria:
-Very weak with a URTI and high fever, can progress very fast
-So weak they can’t sit up in bed or they may have fallen out of bed
-May feel confused, intoxicated, have body delusions like their limbs are detached from the body and scattered all over the bed
-May have canker sores (apthae) and diarrhea (GI infections)
-Better: indoors, drinking ;liquids (but may gag on fluids)
-Worse: cold, open air, walking eating solids (but easier to swallow)
Allium cepa (red onion):
Has affinity with:
mucous membranes (nose, eyes, larynx, bowels) and nerves
Keynote: the nasal discharge is acrid and burns the nostrils and upper lip area (redness), but the tears are bland (Euphrasia has the opposite: the tears irritate the skin, we can see the path where the tear rolled down the cheek, but the nose is fine)
Allium cepa mind:
groggy, sleepy, lethargic-in morning, heat
-Indifferent, dull, lack of motivation
-Absent-minded, worse afternoon and coffee
