Upper Quarter Screening Flashcards
What are the main sites for vascular screening?
Carotid artery under the chin
Brachial artery in cuboid fossa
Radial artery at the wrist
What two positions help clear the shoulder?
hand behind back with overpressure and hand behind head with overpressure
How do you clear the neck?
Take neck through PROM and AROM with and without overpressure
How do you clear the upper rib cage?
Cervical Rotation-Lateral Flexion Test
Passively rotate patients head AWAY from the side being tested and genelty have them flex their head as far as possible, moving their ear towards their chest
a positive test is when the lateral flexion movement is blocked
How do you clear the thoracic spine?
Have patient put their hands behind their neck and go into flexion and extension, apply overpressure as necessary
have patient cross their arms and go into rotation and sidebending, applying overpressure as necessary
When do you need to perform a neurological examination for cervical spine patients?
When patient exhibits upper quarter pain with symptoms extending into the scapula or UE or for any patient with upper quarter symptoms of questionable origin
