Comparisons of upper and lower limb
Anatomy of the pectoral girdle allows agreater range of movementthan the pelvic girdle which hasfused bonesand offers greaterstabilityin return, this is stabilised by the strong sacro-iliac joints
The shallow shoulder joint offers greater movement than the deeper acetabulum but is at greater risk of dislocation, both have a labrum - this is deeper in the hip (also incomplete as proximal dislocation unlikely)
The knee is stabilised withinternal ligaments, unlike the elbow
Bones of the forearm are able topronate and supinatefor greater dexterity. The bones of the leg do not rotate relative to each other as they need to offer greater stability, furthermore the fibula is not part of the knee joint
