More bones Flashcards
Humerus
. Head = forms a ball and socket joint with the scapula (shoulder blade) at the glenoid cavity
Supracondylar Ridge
Supra = above
Condylar = knobby
Tubercles
Allow for attachment of muscles and ligaments
- Greater tubercle and lesser tubercle in the humerus
Tuberosity
Deltoid tuberosity in the humerus - attachment of deltoid muscles
Tuberosity = A large prominence coming off the bone
Fossa
. What does the term mean
. Name the fossa + state purpose plus state which side of humerus they are found on
Fossa = depression or small crater looking structure in a bone
Anterior side = coronoid + radial fossa
Coronoid fossa = flex forearm - apex of the coronoid process of ulna will fit into coronoid fossa of the humerus
Radial fossa = Receives the head of the radius during forearm flexion
Posterior side
. Olecranon fossa = Accomodates the olecranon process of the ulna - which is the bony projection that forms the elbow
Epicondyle
meaning and names in the humerus
condyles meaning and names in the humerus + function
Epi = upon or above
Condyle = rounded protuberances known as capitulum & trochlea
Epicondyles = allow for attachement of various muscles of the forearm - lateral & medial epicondyle
Condyles in the humerus
Capitulum = articulates / forms a joint with the head of the radius bone in the forearm
Trochlea = articulates/ forms a joint with the ulna of the forearm
