Tinnel’s test

A

Testing for:
Nerve entrapment (Carpal tunnel syndrome)

Tap on carpal tunnel (where median nerve passes through)

+ve test:
Reproduction of symptoms (tingling, numbness, electric shock sensation)

Pahalan’s test

A

Testing for:
Carpal tunnel syndrome

Back of hands together (full 90* flexion)
Median nerve is compressed between carpal bones
push elbows down

+ve test:
Reproduction of symptoms (tingling, numbness)

A

Testing for:
TOS

Shoulders abducted to 90*
Open & close hands for 30 seconds

+ve test:
Weakness (unable to keep arms abducted)
Colour change

Record baseline pulse
Extend & rotate neck to affected side
45* abduction, extension & external rotation
Record pulse
