Upper limb muscles from spine Flashcards
What are the upper limb muscles from spine?
superficial:
trapezius
lattimus dorsi
deep: rhomboid major rhomboid minor levator scapulae serratus anterior
What are the attachments and actions of trapezius?
origin: skull + all thoracic vetebrae
insert: acromion+spine of scapula, lateral 1/3 of clavicle
actions: retract and elevate scapula, upward rotation of scapula
What are the attachments and actions of lattimus dorsi?
origin: spinous processes of thoracic, 9-12 ribs, lumbar and sacral vetebra
insert: floor of inter tubercular groove of humerus
actions: extends, adduct, laterally rotate arm at shoulder
What are the attachments and actions of rhomboid major?
origin: spinous process of thoracic vetebrae
insert: medial border of scapula inferior to spine
actions: retracts and elevate medial border of scapula while downwardly rotating lateral angle
What are the attachments and actions of rhomboid minor?
origin: spinous process of c7-t1
insert: medial border of scapula superior to spine
action: retract and elevate medial border of scapula while downwardly rotating lateral angle
What are the attachments and actions of levator scapulae?
origin: transverse process of c1-c4
insert: medial border of scapula between spine and superior angle
actions: pulls scapula upward and medially, bends neck laterally
What are the attachments and actions of serratus anterior?
origin: anterior surface of 8-9 ribs
insert: anterior surface of medial border of scapula
actions: protract scapula, upward rotate while abducting arm
paralysis of serratus anterior causes winging of scapula
Which muscles contribute to the retraction of scapula?
rhomboids, trapezius
Which muscles contribute to the elevation of scapula?
levator scapulae, rhomboids, trapezius
