Upper Limb Clinical Anatomy Flashcards
What is the dermatome of C5?
Shoulder tip
Lateral part of upper arm
What is the dermatome of C6?
Lateral aspect of forearm and thumb
What is the dermatome of C7?
Middle finger
What is the dermatome of C8?
Little finger
What is the dermatome of T1?
Medial aspect of upper arm and elbow
What does the radial nerve supply?
Brachioradialis
Extensors of hand
Triceps brachii
What is the characteristic deformity of the radial nerve?
Wrist drop
If wrist drop isn’t obvious, how would you demonstrate this?
Flex elbow
Pronate forearm
Extend wrist and fingers
When is the triceps brachii muscle affected by a radial nerve injury?
If a lesion occurs in the upper third of the arm
How would one test sensation of the radial nerve?
Area over anatomical snuff box
Which muscles of the hand does the median nerve supply?
Lateral 2 lumbrical
Opponens pollicis
Abductor pollicis brevis
Flexor pollicis brevis (in many people)
How would you assess for weakness of abductor pollicis brevis?
Pen-touching test
Hand flat, palm supinated, abduct thumb vertically to touch pen.
What is the Ochsner’s clasping test?
Tests loss of FDS
Clasp hands firmly together
The index finger on the affected side fails to flex with a lesion of the median nerve in the cubital fossa or higher
What is the sensory distribution of the median nerve?
Palmar aspect of thumb, index finger, middle finger, lateral half of the ring finger
The palm is spared in median nerve lesions in the carpal tunnel
What is the defining hand deformity of the median nerve?
Hand of Benediction
