How far apart should joists be placed?
400-600 mm

Boards/flooring will overhang joists
Waste of money, as it is not necessary
Boards will have to be cut down which is time wasting
Consequences of joists too far apart?
Boards will not fit joists as they often come in set sizes.
More stress on the joists
What is a quarter space landing?
The stairs turn 90’ degrees
Advantages of a joists hangar?
Easy to fit into the wall
Don’t have to make any holes in the walls
Quick to use
What could happen if joists are installed too long?
Joists could start to twist
More chance of damp
Could protrude past the block wall
In cavity construction, where are the upper floor joists commonly attatched?
Inside the skin of a block wall
