Safe-Rider
No questions asked shuttle service in the late evening and early morning hours (7 pm to 3/5 am) for transport within the Oakland area. Each student gets 20 rides per semesters and for each ride you can bring up to two friends.

Opened in 2002 on former spot of Pitt Stadium and with a dramatic view of lower campus; home to men’s and women’s basketball teams it frees up Fitzgerald and trees for other activities; basketball tickets - lottery system- and loyalty points through other athletic events; 2008 Big east Champions; black logo; big screen tv; food court

student section here at Peterson Events Center; named the “Toughest Place to Play”; voted #1 student section
Other Events
Activities fair at start of fall semester where all clubs and organizations gather to provide students with the opportunity to get involved with groups on campus; Career fair also hosted here that brings together businesses in the area
The Baierl Recreation Center
Students only; largest fitness center on campus; dance studio, racquetball courts, free weights, tv screens, treadmills and other machines; fitness classes that can even be taken for credit including yoga and karate.

Salk Hall
Named after Jonas Salk who discovered the vaccine for polio; other things discovered at Pitt include Vitamin C in pill form and synthetic insulin; houses school of pharmacy and dental medicine; pharmacy is ranked 14th but dental schools are not ranked nationally

Houses School of medicine and the Falk Library, lecture rooms, labs, and classrooms for medical students: 17th for Research, 18th for Primary Care, 5th for Research Funds

Home to the John A Swanson School of Engineering; donated 41.3 million dollars for a 5 year renovation of the building; like nursing, engineers have a strict curriculum freshman year which includes a seminar in engineering; discusses all disciplines of engineering and gives info so students can pick sophomore year; includes library, computer lab, and Einstein’s Bagels

Chemistry department; one of most popular majors at Pitt; founded in 1875 the chemistry department is one of the biggest in the nation; recently renovated 2008-2011: first floor now has electronic reference library and Bunsen Brewery, second floor has tutoring area, and fourth floor has new organic teaching facility; Paul Lauterbur, an alumnus, got a Nobel Prize for his work in developing MRI
Soldiers and Sailors Memorial
Commemorates Allegheny county soldiers and sailors, both men and women, of all branches of the military in all nine of the Us major wars; underground owned by Pitt; 2008 Barack Obama spoke here during his campaign for PA primary; largest memorial building in US dedicated sole to America’s fighting personnel; scenes from Silence of the Lambs were filmed here; warning to the South; Pittsburgh Athletic Association
