Upper Arm: Hasty Lecture Flashcards
What fascia separates anterior and posterior compartments of the arm?
by a lateral and medial intermuscular septum
Compartment syndrome
pressure causes nerve and vascular problems because fluid is trapped in fascia
What is most likely the result of injury to the cervical neck of the humerus?
Injury of axillary n. (teres minor, deltoid) and/or posterior circumflex artery
Fracture of the shaft of the humerus may be accompanied by injury to which structures?
The radial n. and/or deep brachial atery
Injuries to the median n. and brachial artery may be the result of what type of fracture?
supracondylar fracture
What happens if you get stabbed around the cervical neck of the humerus?
extension probably wont be lost but if would likely cause wrist drop (radial n.)
Cephalic vein location?
between the deltoid and pec. major. Anterior
Where is the basilic vein located?
Runs medially down the arm
Where is the median cubital vein located? What is it used for?
on top of cubital fossa, used for drawing blood etc.
What structures might be damaged if median cubital
Median n., brachial artery, biceps tendon
What three muscles are located in the anterior part of the brachial fascia?
biceps, coracobrachalis, brachialis
What nerve innervates the anterior part in the brachial fascia?
musculocutaneous n.
What muscles are located in the posterior part of the brachial fascia?
Triceps (lateral, medial, long)
What nerve innervates the posterior portion of the brachial fascia?
Radial n.
What comes through the triangular interval
radial n. and deep brachial artery
