Upper Appendicular Muscles Flashcards
Anterior compartment of arm
- Branchialis (ELBOW FLEXOR)
- Biceps branchii (Long head and short head) (ELBOW FLEXOR)
- Brachioradialis (ELBOW FLEXOR)
- Coracobrachialis (ADDUCTION)
Brachialis
O = Humerus (distal, anterior)
I = Coronoid process of ulna
Biceps brachii
Long:
O = Supraglenoid tubercle
Short:
O = Corocoid process
Both insert = radial tuberosity
Brachioradialis
O = Lateral supracondylar ridge
I = styloid process of radius
Posterior (EXTENSOR) compartment of arm (EXTENSION AT ELBOW)
Triceps branchii:
Long head:
O = Infraglenoid tubercle
Lateral and medial head = Posterior humerus
All insert on olecranon process
Flexor compartment of forearm (1st layer) PFPF
All originate at medial epicondyle)
1) Flexor carpi ulnaris
(Inserts base of 5th, ulna deviation)
2) Palmaris longus
Inserts at palmar fascia
3) Flexor carpi radialis
Inserts at base of 2nd and 3rd, radial deviation
4) Pronator teres
Inserts mid-radius, pronation
Flexor compartment of forearm (2nd layer)
1) Flexor digitorum superficialis
O = medial epicondyle
I = middle phalanges of digits 2-5
Flexor compartment of forearm (3rd layer)
1) Flexor digitorum profundus
O = ulna
I = Distal phalanges 2-5
2) Flexor pollicus longus
O = radius
I = Distal phalanx thumb
3) Pronator quadratus
O = distal ulna
I = distal radius
Extensor compartment of the forearm (1st layer)
1) Brachioradialis
2) Extensor carpi radialis longus
3) Extensor carpi radialis brevis
4) Extensor digitorum
5) Extensor digiti minimi
6) Extensor carpiulnaris
Extensor compartment of the forearm (2nd layer)
1) Abductor pollicis longus
2) Extensor pollicis brevis
3) Extensor pollicis longus
4) Extensor indicis
Intrinsic muscles of hand
1) Where pinky is:
Hypothenar
2) Middle:
Central group
3) Where thumb is:
Thenar group
Muscles that move pectoral girdle (ANTERIOR)
Pectoralis minor:
O = ribs 3-5
I = Coracoid process scapula
Serratus anterior:
O: ribs
I: medial of scapula
Muscles that move pectoral girdle (POSTERIOR)
Trapezious (Upper) (Trapezious in general: Elevate, retract, protrude, etc)
I = Acromion
Trapezious (Middle and lower)
I = Spine of scapula
Levator scapula (elevates), rhomboids (elevates and retracts)
I = Medial border of scapula
Rotator cuff muscles
1) Infraspinatous
2) supraspinatous (
3) subscapularis (abd, medial rotation)
4) teres minor (lat rotation)
Teres minor originates from the lateral border of the scapula.
All insert onto greater tubercle but subscapularis goes onto lesser.
Anterolateral muscles
Coracobrachialis
O=Corocoid process of scapula
I = Humerus
F = Adduction
Posterior (EXTENSOR) compartment of arm
Triceps branchii:
1) Long head
O=Infraglenoid tubercle
2) Lateral head and medial head
O=Posterior humerus
ALL INSERT ON OLECRANON PROCESS
Supination and pronation muscles
SUPA:
Biceps branchii
Supinator
PRO:
Pronator teres
Pronator quadratus
Dedicated wrist muscles
All with carpi in it
External obliques do contralateral rotation and flection of abdomen!!!
Internal obliques do ipsilateral rotation and flection??
Teres major
O=inferior angle of scapula
I=lesser tubercle
ADDUCTS
Latissimus dorsi
I=medial humerus
SUPINATOR FORMS A V WITH PRONATOR TERES BUT GOES TO POSTERIOR SIDE!!!
For deep layers extensor
1- pronator
- three for thumb (abductor most lateral, BREVIS SANDWICH SO BREVIS IN MIDDLE!
- one for indicis
