UNS-1K Flashcards
How is predictive RAIM determined for GPS approaches?
This prediction automatically occurs when approach mode is activated. If RAIM will not be available at either the FAF or MAP, the messages NO GPS RAIM@FAF or NO GPS @MAP are displayed. Predictive RAIM may also be checked from FPL MENU page 1/2.
How far will the FMS fly while in approach mode?
The FMS will fly all approach transitions up to the FAF, but prior to that point the pilot should transition his nav source and FGS mode to ILS guidance.
How are altitudes entered at flight plan waypoints?
For flight levels enter the three numeral designations - (370 = FL370).
For altitudes enter the full altitude - (16000).
List the 3 ways to exit “Command Heading”
- Enter a new heading that will intercept the current NAV leg and then tell the FMS to intercept.
- Another way to exit command heading mode is to press CNCL HDG.
- Selection of a DTO waypoint will automatically cancel command heading.
Describe the procedure to be used when ATC gives vectors to intercept a NAV leg or airway which is not currently the active NAV leg.
Manual leg changes can be made from the NAV page 1 or 2. To change the leg, press the line select key adjacent to the “FR” or “TO” field, as desired.
When the line select key is pressed, the display will show a list of current flight plan waypoints for selection. Enter the number for the new “FR” waypoint and press enter.
What are the steps required to exit HOLDING early in order to proceed on course?
To terminate the holding pattern early, first select PROCEED, and then DTO the holding fix. PROCEED will remove the holding pattern and upon crossing the holding fix, the aircraft will continue on course.
When is the LANDING summary page displayed?
Upon touchdown, the LANDING summary page will be displayed. This is triggered by a 3 second input from the squat switch.
What is the proper FMS shutdown procedure?
Press the ON/OFF key. In the overlay, press the OFF line select key, and then select the CONFIRM OFF line select key. The FMS will shut down. It is strongly recommended that the FMS be shut down by the normal shutdown method before removing power from the FMS by turning off the avionics master switch or the aircraft’s batteries. Failing to do so will place the FMS in a power failure mode.
What is the purpose of STBY mode in the FMS and how is it used?
It is recommended that the FMS be put in STBY if electrical power will be removed from the FMS during engine start.
When the standby mode is activated, the FMS will hold flightplan and fuel inputs for a configurable time of 0, 2, 4, 6, or 8 hours. The FMS will power down, but the flightplan and fuel inputs are saved. Press the ON/OFF key and line select key 5R will present OFF/STBY. Select this line select key and CONFIRM STBY will appear adjacent to line select key [5R].
What are the rules for FMS approach activation?
It is critical to know when to allow automatic activation of the approach and when to manually activate the approach.
- When flying an approach transition, allow the FMS to automatically activate the approach.
- When on vectors to the final approach course and after placing the aircraft on the assigned heading, manually activate the approach.
At some airports ATC guidance will direct the aircraft to intercept and proceed inbound on the localizer without clearance to fly the approach.
A technique to accomplish this is as follows. Select the aircraft flight director approach mode to transfer navigational control to the EFIS. Once the transfer is complete, reselect NAV mode on the aircraft flight director.
