Unofficial memory items Flashcards

1
Q

High engine vibration

A

FCTM
High vibration alone does not warrant engine shutdown
ECAM will highlight parameter if exceedance
If flight crews detects go to QRH ECAM Advisory Conditions which directs you to QRH High Engine Vibration Procedure

Q

Tailpipe fire

A

No cockpit indication (maybe increasing EGT)

QRH Engine Tailpipe Fire
If Bleed Air not readily available to dry crank, ground crew may use extinguisher as last resort

Do not use Eng Fire Pb as it disconnects Fadec electrics required to dry crank and clear engine

Extinguisher should not be used as it may not put out internal engine fire and requires maintenance action (corrosion damage). Only use as last resort after QRH procedure

No critical areas of engine damaged with tailpipe fire, may hurt flaps

Q

Landing with abnormal slats / flaps

A

Takeoff: pull speed

Flight limited to 20000’
Will need to calculate new fuel burn, make decision about return/continue

Approach: Pull speed to avoid further decel
QRH Landing with flaps or slats jammed
Use Speed Sel Vfe -5 to decelerate and select next config

Autopilot to 500’

Briefing:
Tail strike awareness
Go around config
Deviation from standard callouts
Speeds in the missed

Abort engine start for:

A

Hot/Hung (no FADEC protection)
Screens (DUs) go blank
Failure of APU or APU bleed
ECAM Eng 1(2) Ovspd Prot Fault (this message one more start before contacting maintenance)

Starter duty:
- 1 standard automatic start includes up to 3 attempts (this is 1 cycle)
- ground start, 20 seconds between cycles
- after 4 attempts, 15 min cooling required
- starter just not run when N2 over 20%

Q

Overweight Landing

A

Use QRH>Misc
Notify mtce
Config Full unless above Std MA Clb Wt (then use Conf 3 with GA in Conf 1+F)
Packs on APU bleed or Off (if using WAI)

Configure early. Be at Vapp by FAF
(May need to select speed to get below Vfe next then back to Managed. May even need to disconnect A/Thr if Vfe next is below VLS)
Reduce speed to VLS over threshold
Flare high 50’. Touch down with minimum vertical speed
Maximum reverse ASAP, minimize braking (consider no Autobrake)

Use full runway
Brake fans on after stopping
(Runway inspection?)

Q

Dual FMGC failure

A

Can attempt getting A/P or A/Thr back by selecting one or other.

If not, move thrust levers for manual thrust

Recognition: MCDU-Timeout or Please Wait message, ND MAP-Not avail, may lose FCU modes

FDs off, select bird

Use RMPs to tune navaids

Try QRH Auto Flt reset (one at a time)

Must look up Gdot, F and S speeds in QRH (Ops Data, Operating Speeds)

Q

Dual FCU failure

A

Will lose:
FCU controls, Both A/Ps, A/thr, FDs, FMA, Cat 3
ND to Rose Nav and 80mi scale
Disregard Wx radar
MCDU still works: can go Dto anywhere and use the bird
Altimeters revert to 29.92 so do not input DA/MDA (standby can be set, PM must call 100 Above)
Only ILS can be flown (No RNAV)

Fuel spill

A

Cease fuelling

A319/A320: All fuel pumps off, Mode Sel Manual
A321: (or Fuel L/R Wing Tk Overflow ECAM): Don’t do ECAM! All fuel pumps and Ctr Tk Xfr switches off

Advise Dispatch, ATC, FAs

Deplane pax if “major” fuel spill (1.5 metres any direction or >12mm deep)

Ensure pax are kept well clear
