Unload Job Setup

A
  1. Check equipment alignment to dock; must be flush to platform.
  2. Ensure trailer is set up to take advantage of gravity feed.
  3. Unload aids must be available and functional, totes, rollers, and proper unload stand.

When Opening Overhead Doors

A
  1. Grasp latch with one hand and door handle with the other, lift with legs, eyes down.
  2. Raise the door to between waist and shoulder height.
  3. Switch left hand to a palms up position on the bottom edge of the door.
  4. Obtain the door strap with right hand.
  5. Open the door by pushing up on the door with the heel of the left hand.
  6. Control door movement with strap.
  7. Door should be open slowly to help control package movement behind the door.
  8. Stay alert for shifted loads and falling packages.
  9. Disconnected retainer strap secure the top left and top right fitting in the highest slats on the left side of trailer nearest the door.
  10. Remove retainer bar if necessary and store in designated location.

Set Up Extendo

A
  1. Everyone must be clear of belt, stand to side of Extendo, use close fist method.
  2. With device inside of trailer maintain a 2 foot walk aisle between face of current wall and end of device.
  3. When using unload stand bring conveyor all the way to the face of the wall.
  4. Adjust vertical height of the Extendo to keep packages in power zone.
  5. Set up rollers when permanently installed rollers are not available.
  6. Add roller sections and T stands as the trailer empties.
  7. Hook roller sections together to prevent them from separating while unloading.

Have a Set Routine

A
  1. Face the work while standing at a 45 degree angle to conveyer.
  2. Maintain a safe walk way to and from trailer.
  3. Keep trailer floors and grating clear of irregulars and packages.
  4. Get help with over 70s.
  5. Have adequate supply of tote boxes.
  6. Maintain a constant awareness of your relationship to the unload device and packages.

Select Package

A
  1. While removing a package from the wall, visually select the next package to unload.
  2. Move directly from conveyor to the preselected package to avoid excess motion.
  3. Keep eyes on the package wall watch for falling packages.
  4. Obtain package by opposite diagonal corners and if necessary rotate toward your body no more than 1/2 turn to find label.
  5. Follow local procedures for packages that may require special handling.
  6. When you see HAZMAT determine if prohibited hold progress and notify supervisor.
  7. If not prohibited place with orientation arrows up.

Package Placement

  1. Place package on the conveyer label up or facing direction of the package flow.
  2. Use hand to surface.
  3. Place odd shaped packages such as tubes and customize cartons on top of other sturdier packages when unloading to a roller conveyor.
  4. Unload tires found in bags as normal packages single small tires if not already in bags are to be placed in a plastic tire bag and sent through the system larger tires or groups of tires banded together are typically put into the irregulars system.
  5. Never pull down packages while.

Maintain a Continuous Flow

  1. When unloading to a roller conveyor, place packages back to back squarely on the roller conveyor.
  2. Minimize time away from the unloading position by combining tasks during trips away from unloading position such as moving irregulars to the rear of the trailer when retrieving tote boxes.

Finish Unloading

  1. On completion of unloading, inspect the trailer floor for any remaining packages, smalls, overgoods, paper products, loose labels.
  2. Close door and secure latch.
  3. Move to next assignment.

Smalls Handling

A
  1. Unload smalls bags as found in the load. Do not store them.
  2. Place all smalls in tote boxes with the labels down.
  3. Unload tote boxes of smalls as they become full.
  4. Tote boxes should be available to the unloader throughout the unloading process.
  5. Never plays loose smalls on the rollers or extenders.

Irregulars Handling

  1. Maintain continuous flow by setting irregulars aside, against the walls of the trailer until you can move them during a trip to the rear of the trailer or until the inbound sweeper can remove them.

Unload Sequence

A
  1. Using an unload stand select a package on the top shelf in center of the wall and begin unloading.
  2. Unload the top left section 1st until the packages are in your power zone.
  3. Move it on the stand to the right side of the trailer and unload the top right section 2nd.
  4. I’m at the unload stand out-of-the-way and unload the bottom right section 3rd.
  5. Movie on those down to the other side and unload the bottom left section 4th.
  6. This method of unloading packages help to prevent packages walls from collapsing.
  7. Unload top down middle out on each side of the conveyor.
  8. Use on those stand in top portions of the wall.
  9. Unload one section at a time.

Wrap Up

A
  1. Wrap-up starts at the beginning of the sort.
  2. Check area thoroughly for packages labels over goods etc.
  3. Pick up all supplies tags trash and loose strapping.
  4. Secure all equipment notify supervisor of damaged equipment and power down equipment.
