Universe Components Flashcards
What’s a star?
Sphere Of plasma that admits bright light and other radiation
What’s a planet?
An astronomical object orbiting a star that is large enough to be rounded by it’s gravity
What’s a moon?
An astronomical object that orbits a planet
What’s an astroid
An astronomical body orbiting a star that doesn’t have enough gravity to become rounded
What’s a comet?
An astronomical object with an elliptical orbit around a star releasing gas as it nears the star
What a meteor
Any astronomical object that enters a planets atmosphere
What’s a meteorite
A small astronomical object that reaches a planet surface
What’s asolar system
The collection of astronomical bodies in orbit around a star
What’s a galaxy
A collection of stars and nebula held together by gravity
What’s a nebula
Any collection of astronomical gases and small debris or dust
What’s a quasar?
The extremely bright core of a galaxy containing a black hole
What’s a pulsar
A star that emits dual beams of radiation in short bursts
What’s a black hole
An astronomical space that has such high gravity that no light can escape
How many planets does our solar system contain
Eight
What are terrestrial planets
Planet composed mostly of rock. These are mercury Venus Earth and Mars
