Unit Review Flashcards
Water vapour
-evaporation -water comes from ocean
- Produced by plants and animals
- most abundant- always present
Humans can’t control
Carbon dioxide
Produce by living animals
Product of manufacturing transportation and anything else that burns fossil fuels
Methane
Openings in earth crust
Swamps and bogs
Bacteria found in guts of cows
Nitrous oxide
Industrial farming practices use synthetic fertilizers which breaks down into nitrous oxide
The movement of air summarized above creates a cycling of fluid air
Convection currents
Why is understanding convection currents important
They cause global wind system
Move the earth plate causing earthquakes
A summary of how global wind systems move energy around earth
Warm air moves energy form the equator to the upper atmosphere, through convection currents this helps cool the equator l
Nitrogen sink
Nitrogen fixing bacteria
Live in symbiotic relationship in legume roots
Converts N2 gas into forms plants can use
Nitrogen source
When decomposing bacteria break down dead stuff and poop some is converted to nutrients plants can use and some is converted to atmospheric N2
How is salmon a link in nitrogen cycle
The salmon is brought into the forest by a bear. It then breaks down into the soil where it is absorbed into the trees.( salmon have lots of N2)
2 ways cellular respiration is dependant on photosynthesis
Photosynthesis converts carbon dioxide and water to glucose and oxygen
How are food webs useful
understanding how energy is transferred between organisms in the ecosystem and to better understand life on earth
